William’s windmill

Malawian teenager William Kamkwamba was forced to drop out of school when his parents’ crops failed, but he’s managed to do something incredible. This fascinating little multimedia piece from the Toronto Star shows us how, using scraps from a local scrapyard, he created something that harnessed the wind – changing his family’s life.

It’s great to see a story highlighting entrepreneurship and celebrating Africans who are doing it themselves. There are no doubt many more Williams across the majority world. Why aren’t we hearing about them?

    Fascinating, inspirational and heart-warming.

Congrats to Lucas Oleniuk and Randy Risling for a fantastically well put together slideshow. And to the Toronto Star for running it.
