Wave of Death

It’s hard to believe that Saturday will mark five years since the devastating south Asian Tsunami which claimed some 300,000 lives. This audio slideshow, shot by Panos photographer Abbie Trayler-Smith, briefly tells the stories of people from Banda Aceh, whose shattered lives British money helped rebuild in the weeks following the disaster. The piece was funded by DFID, the UK Department for International Development -- perhaps a sign that multimedia storytelling is starting to making an impact on those who hold the purse strings of government communications departments.

Thanks for this Ciara … I think the piece shows how hard it is to pull off this kind of work … the balance of work feeling credible as a feature, but also singing the praises of the organisation funding the multimedia is really tricky.

I guess what all organisations need to to understand, is that if they don’t get the credible bit right, if they don’t make the work entertaining, than its not going to find an audience, and will therefore fail to spread their message.
